Romain BOCKLER

Baritone, co-director of the Concerto Soave ensemble.

Romain Bockler trained at the CNSMD in Lyon and then at the Studio of the Opéra National de Lyon, as well as with Cécile de Boever, Rosa Dominguez, Margreet Honig and Yves Sotin. On stage, his repertoire extends from baroque opera to contemporary opera. Laureate of numerous international competitions, Romain Bockler performs in many opera houses in France, in Europe and around the world. He thus collaborates with Le Poème Harmonique (Vincent Dumestre), Alia Mens (Olivier Spilmont), the ensemble Masques (Olivier Fortin), Les Arts Florissant (Paolo Zanzu/William Christie), Pygmalion (Raphaël Pichon), Les Surprises (Louis-Noël Bestion by Camboulas), Le Concert Spirituel (Hervé Niquet), etc... Also very active in contemporary repertoires, he creates different roles closely linked and under the direction of composers such as Peter Eötvös or even Alexandre Desplat.

Passionate about the music of the Renaissance and working in small groups, he created in 2017 the ensemble Dulces Exuviae with the Slovenian lutist Bor Zuljan and frequently performs with specialized ensembles such as Huelgas Ensemble, Doulce Mémoire, Weser Renaissance Bremen, the Harmonic Hand, or even Diabolus in Musica. Many discographic recordings testify to his activity in this field..

After years of collaboration with the ensemble Concerto Soave, since 2023 he has been co-directing the ensemble and the festival Mars en Baroque in Marseille with its founder Jean-Marc Aymes. Romain Bockler is a professor of early music singing at the Pôle Supérieur Aliénor in Poitiers. In addition, he holds an engineering degree and a master’s degree in acoustics.
